[For Jorah] Under the Targaryen Banner

The rebellion had been crushed.

The Baratheons were punished and Robert was beheaded for leading the charge against the Targaryen banner. Battles had been waged and fought all across Westeros, and luckily for the Targaryens, they had plenty of loyal supporters who fought for them. The Mormont clan were such supporters. Particularly Jorah Mormont, who was knighted by the King when the war was over.

But he didn't stop there.

Jorah's loyalty and devotion to the Targaryen banner was so great and his deeds were so admirable that the King took it a step further. He made Jorah Warden of the North, and sent his youngest child, his daughter Daenerys, to meet Jorah at Winterfell.

Another reward for Ser Jorah Mormont: She was to be his bride.

Daenerys wasn't sure how she felt about the North. On the carriage ride all she did was pull the furs about her tighter, to keep her warm. When they finally arrived at Winterfell, it began to snow lightly all around them. A Gold Cloak had been sent North to see that Daenerys was delivered safely, and he opened the carriage door for her to let her out.

She was hardly queen yet; still, he treated her as one. But, if she were completely honest on that point, he had treated her as such from the moment she'd first arrived at Winterfell. Daenerys felt her entire body react to his initial thrust, arching as she moaned aloud for him. She kissed along his neck and collarbone before looking up to him. "I love you too," she whispered, pressing her lips to his. "You know, it will be difficult leading a war effort if I become pregnant," she teased.

Jorah kept his arms wrapped around her protectively. He chuckled at her words as he continued to hold her close. "It would indeed. However, I will never promise you a weak performance when called upon to pleasure you my love. I will happily take your wroth and your joy should that happen." He said as he brushed her jaw with one of his calloused hands.

Daenerys loved how he held her so protectively. He held her in his embrace like a great bear. She chuckled and kissed him softly. "Oh no, I wouldn't expect you to do anything like that," she smiled. Daenerys brought her hand up to rest over his at her jaw. She loved the feeling of his war-bitten hands against her soft skin.

Jorah smiled as he relaxed against her, but continued to hold her protectively. She was indeed strong in her own ways, but he still wanted to protect her from everything. He continued to nuzzle her as she leaned into his touch. "Thank you my love, my Queen." He said softly.

Daenerys nodded a little, nuzzling into him and cuddling close atop the bear skin that covered their bed. The pelt was always something that comforted her and kept her warm; a hallmark of house Mormont. "So. When should we move on King's Landing?"

Jorah smiled at her question. He gave her a small kiss on her forehead in happiness. "See? You are a natural leader." He praised. He held her close as he considered her question. "We need to rally the North and make our way to claim the Eerie and the Twins. No one from the North will betray you. We can make an offer for those strong families along our way to either stand beside us, or be considered traitors and dealt with as such. Once we make those bold statements, our archers will need to shoot down every crow in the sky to prevent news travelling to your brother. We could then fortify ourselves and wait for your brother to act. With the whole of the North secure behind your back, you will command more men and land than your brother. We could send a trusted envoy to the Sunspear to make an alliance with Dorne. Then your brother would be surrounded." He suggested. It would be a wiser move to wait for the hot headed Viserys to attack them. He would be blinded by his rage to listen to wise council and demand his armies forward. The real problem would be whenever he chose to involve his dragons in the fray.

Daenerys nodded and considered his plan. He was the more militant of the two of them, she would be relying heavily on his skills and experience. Daenerys traced patterns on his chest as she lay beside him, her legs tangled with his.

"We need to find a way to separate the North in the meantime," she pointed out. "Crows can be killed but are harder to see in the dark. Also a single scout could escape to King's Landing and warn Viserys. Should we have one of my dragons create a wall of fire to separate us? It would look random enough to not be considered a military move, and it would completely cut us off from the south until we are ready to move."

Jorah hummed softly as she traced patterns over his chest. His hand stroked through her hair slowly. Her suggestion of a wall of fire was quite brilliant. "We could send farmers to move some dirt so that the fire will burn south and not North. That way those who are committed to you are not at risk of loosing farmland to dragon fire." He pointed out.

Daenerys nodded as she looked up to him. "That was my only concern. We could send small battalions with water as well if the fire does spread beyond where we intended."

She smiled and kissed hisbjaw, savoring the feeling of his stubble against her lips. "You're brilliant, Jorah."

Jorah chuckled as he gave a slow nod of his head. "Something else to consider is how you will treat those who surrender after defying you. An honorable route is to take some of the children as 'hostages' to serve in our house. Another is to give the older ones an option of taking the black instead of facing a trial. Those are both traditions that the North honors and has upheld since the days of the first men. It would show you as a just leader who is willing to reconcile those who go against you and will offer them a fair trial. Actions such as those will win you the heart of the people and lesser lords quickly. Many of them will be forced to fight because of old family ties, but will happily beg your forgiveness once they have the opportunity." He said. He doubted her brother would even entertain such leniency.

Daenerys considered his point. "I do want to be accepted, rather than feared. But I do not wish to gain a reputation for leniency, lest our enemies think me weak. But it would not do to strike out against such men who merely follow orders."

She was conflicted. "Still, there is something to be said against a man's character when he does something solely for the reason of tradition, rather than fight what is right. I shall follow your advice though, love. I will allow those who surrender to take the black, or offer sons to serve in the household."

But that was also slavery...wasn't it? "...if they remain loyal, I will consider releasing their children back to them."

Jorah listened to her thoughtfully before nodding. "There will be some who refuse mercy and can be used to make terrible examples from. Allowing children to return to their families after years of loyalty will build trust and fealty from them. Harsh judgements on those who are tried and found guilty will not show you as too lenient, especially if you personally watch the executions." He said. "In King's landing there is a headsman, I know that in the North the Lord of Winterfell personally executes those condemned. These are things for you to consider before you have to face them." He explained. These were the harder things of ruling during war. He wanted her to have some time to consider what path she would take.

He hesitated for a moment at her words, "For men in that position it is difficult. To do the right thing, they would rush their wives and children. They might do things from within or drag their feet to action. The best they could hope for is to defect during a skirmish and hide within our camps until their liege lords have been defeated and we can rescue their families. It would be safer for their liege lords to think them dead than turncoats." He warned her. Certain lesser lords had oaths that came first, or risk getting their entire family killed in the process.

Daenerys listened carefully, nodding slowly. Violence had its time and place. She would be swift and unyielding in her vengeance to those who defied her. She knew that difficult decisions would need to be made, and she was ready to deal with those consequences.

"...then we need to find a way to keep their families safe. Others will threaten their families, we should strive to protect them and set ourselves apart from our enemies," Daenerys pointed out. "I will not tolerate violence against innocent civilians. I want that made clear."

Jorah nodded his agreement and was intensely proud at what he saw in her eyes...determination and spirit. He saw that she was born to be a great leader. He knew she would never had asked for this on her own, but she would grow into a powerful ruler. He honestly felt humbled to be by her side as her husband.

He kissed her forehead tenderly. "That will be a striking difference from our enemies. One that will be very welcome." He said. "I will be certain to let the commanders know that no civilians are to be harmed no matter the circumstance. If they attack they should be arrested so that they can be tried, but they are not to be harmed." He said.

Daenerys felt better about this plan now. With Jorah by her side, she knew there would be no stopping them.

The war had been long and hard-fought. Victory was near, all that remained was to take King's Landing. Daenerys' dragons were fierce, not the least bit weary as they saw the smaller dragons Viserys had at his disposal. Daenerys had sent a scout to issue the offer that if he surrendered, she would show mercy.

Viserys had sent the scout's headless body back tied on his horse. His head was in the saddlebag.

Soon after the cry of a dragon was heard high above in the sky. Daenerys saw her brother, crazed with fury, flying on the back of his dragon. She looked to Jorah and carefully climbed onto Drogon's back. The black dragon burst up into the sky to take on the new King and his dragon.

Jorah had been by her side as they made their battle plans. The war was indeed long, but there was very little unnecessary loss of innocents. They had managed to surprise the false King and win over many of his enemies. He had been hesitant to send a messenger in person and saw the headless body returning with a touch of sadness. That man had willingly volunteered...his family had been killed by the false King and he wanted the pleasure of causing him great discomfort in delivering that message.

Jorah was standing next to Viserion, the white dragon who was only slightly smaller than Drogon. He nodded and mounted the great white dragon and flying after his wife. Viserion was smaller than Drogon, but was still considerably larger than the dragon the enrages Viserys' dragon.

Daenerys had been saddened and enraged when the messenger came back beheaded. This would not go unheeded. She would have her vengeance for the man.

As Jorah flew on Viserion's back up into the sky with her, Daenerys flew higher on Drogon. Viserys sat upon his dragon, much smaller than her two, clad in red armor with his eyes narrowed as he looked to his sister.

"You dare send a messenger to threaten me? You dare stand against me?" Viserys roared. "I AM KING!"

"Our father was king. You bullied him from the throne and drove our people into bondage," Daenerys snapped. "I will not stand by any longer and watch you do this!"

"There will be no mercy," Viserys glared at Jorah now. "You will all burn."
