[For Jorah] Under the Targaryen Banner

The rebellion had been crushed.

The Baratheons were punished and Robert was beheaded for leading the charge against the Targaryen banner. Battles had been waged and fought all across Westeros, and luckily for the Targaryens, they had plenty of loyal supporters who fought for them. The Mormont clan were such supporters. Particularly Jorah Mormont, who was knighted by the King when the war was over.

But he didn't stop there.

Jorah's loyalty and devotion to the Targaryen banner was so great and his deeds were so admirable that the King took it a step further. He made Jorah Warden of the North, and sent his youngest child, his daughter Daenerys, to meet Jorah at Winterfell.

Another reward for Ser Jorah Mormont: She was to be his bride.

Daenerys wasn't sure how she felt about the North. On the carriage ride all she did was pull the furs about her tighter, to keep her warm. When they finally arrived at Winterfell, it began to snow lightly all around them. A Gold Cloak had been sent North to see that Daenerys was delivered safely, and he opened the carriage door for her to let her out.

Jorah brushed his hand over the back of her head to comfort her. "It was not your fault Daenerys. Sometimes a child is lost doing the simplest of tasks. I had an Aunt who once lost a child whilst cutting vegetables for a surprise dinner she was making for my Uncle." He said softly.

He felt her holding back tears and tilted her him up to look deep into those violet eyes. "I do not want you to hold back your emotions from me. I am your husband. I am the well for you to pour your emotions into and protect those moments from the eyes of the world. I do not want you to hold back when you are angry, sad, or overjoyed. I am here, by your side, to help you in whatever way is necessary for you to successfully lead." He said truthfully. He wanted her to have an outlet for these emotions. He knew that it was dangerous for a ruler to bottle up these intense emotions. He would never see her as weak, even if she cried for three days straight.

Daenerys listened as he spoke, she knew indeed that a baby could be lost doing even the most mundane of tasks. But the fact that she had lost a child, their first child after being chided by her brother and father for not yet having one...

It was heartbreaking.

She looked up into his eyes as he tilted her chin up. Daenerys nodded and tears poured from her eyes. She didn't want to be so weak and weepy. She wanted to be stronger. Daenerys buried her face into his chest again. "I don't want this pain. I want to be better. I want to be stronger." Even with him.

Jorah knew that having a child at her age from a powerful house like her own was unusual. However, he had not put any pressure on her that she herself or her family put upon her. He knew that the gods would grant them a child when the time was right.

He rocked them gently on the bed as she cried and his powerful arms were wrapped around her to hold her tight. "Pain is an unfortunate fact of life. Those of us who go through moments like this that are painful become stronger because of the pain." He said as he kissed her temple gently. He truly loved her and if there was a way, he would take the pain from her if he could.

Daenerys listened, and understood. He was indeed right, strength came from recovering from pain. She simply needed to recover her strength, and ensure that it never happened again.

Some weeks passed, and Daenerys marched into King's Landing with her dragons circling in the sky. For the most part, she was received with open arms. The Targaryen banner flew without fear. Daenerys held a special mourning pyre and ritual for those who had given their lives during the war against her brother.

Including her own unborn child.

As things began to settle and she grew into her role as queen, her health began to decline. Every morning she felt sicker and sicker. Occasionally it was a struggle to get up out of bed. Often the strong smells of meat or wine made her ill. Headaches made her dizzy and irritable. Only after much prompting from Jorah and her Small Council did Daenerys allow the Maester to examine her.

Jorah had been concerned about the sort of welcome they might get once they finally marched into King's landing. He found himself relieved it went so smoothly. He watched as his wife was crowned as Queen and coronated as the ruler. He was quietly named King consort and happily stood by her side.

He had grown worried when her health began to decline a few weeks after things had settled down. He was about to keep her in their chambers and summon the Maester himself without her consent. He was relieved when she agreed to allowing the Maester to see her.

Jorah was concerned that perhaps her fall had caused slow injuries to form. He waited anxiously outside their chamber as the Maester examined her. He was tempted to stay with her, but also worried about what might be wrong. He wondered if someone had poisoned her.

The Maester had entered and examined her carefully. He gave a surprised chuckle. "Your grace, you are with child. Quite a few months in, I suspect you will begin to feel movement within you soon." He said with a gentle smile. He had noted that her belly was not flat, but had not been certain until he had felt over her stomach.

Daenerys begrudgingly let the Maester examine her. She had things to do, she didn't have time for...

...what.

Daenerys stared for a long moment after the Maester spoke. "...that's impossible...I fell, in battle. I lost a child that day, I can't possibly be pregnant."

The Maester smiled at her as one smiles at an idiot child. "Your grace, the gods work in mysterious ways. But I am indeed positive. You're with child. As near as I can tell, the child is healthy and growing nicely." But there was something he couldn't tell...not yet. That would come in time when Daenerys' belly would begin to swell.

Daenerys smiled before looking up to the Maester. "Send in the king. But tell him nothing! I want to tell him myself."

As the Maester moved to obey, Daenerys made a conscious effort to look sullen. To throw him off.

Jorah was pacing nervously out in the hallway. He looked at the Maester in concern, wanting a report. "I was ordered by the Queen to send you in sire." Was all he said.

Jorah gave him a hard look before going in and quickly moving to her side. The Maester shut the doors with a knowing smile.

Jorah sat on the bed next to his wife and slipped an arm around her to hold her. He kissed her temple gently. "What did the Maester say?" He was so worried that it was a terrible sickness, possible depression from loosing their child.

Daenerys had to bite the side of her tongue to keep from smiling. As Jorah came beside her she looked up to him with wide Violet eyes. "Come closer, love."

She waited for him to obey, and she leaned up to whisper in his ear. "He said....the Maester...he said...you're going to be a father." She leaned back to see his expression, her own mouth breaking into a grin.

Jorah was very concerned with how wide her eyes were. He leaned in and listened to her words before freezing. His brow furrowed with worry that turned to confusion mixed with relief and joy as her words slowly sank in. He saw the smile on her face as he slowly shifted a hand down to rub over her belly tenderly. "You.....we....how.....how is this possible?" He asked in a soft whisper. He would thank the gods old and new for this gift.

Daenerys laughed playfully at his reaction and leaned up to kiss him. "I don't know...the Maester said I was a few months along - I must have been carrying more than one when I fell." She looked up to him with wide eyes. Her hand came down to her belly to rest on top of his.

"The gods have smiled on us," she should have lost both babies in that fall, but clearly a miracle had allowed her to keep at least one baby.

Jorah was confused until she mentioned possibly carrying more than one child. Joy filled his eyes as he kissed along the side of her face. "We are truly blessed and favored by the gods." He said with joy.

He gently rubbed the back of her head. "Did he have any suggestions to lessen the headaches that plague you?" He asked.

Daenerys nodded in agreement. "So long as the baby is healthy and isn't hurt from the fall. According to the Maester though, the baby is healthy and growing at the normal rate."

At his question, she shook her head. "There are herbs, but knowing what the issue is makes it less frightening and less painful, you know? I don't mind it so much now."

Jorah nodded his head in agreement as he kissed her temple. He smiled as he shifted her so that she could curl up in his lap as he held her. "We are going to have a child. What do you hope for? A girl? Or a boy?" He asked her. Honestly he was happy to be having a child so soon after their victory. He would be pleased with a healthy child regardless of the gender.

Daenerys smiled and looked up to him, lacing her fingers with his over her belly. She cuddled into him and kissed over his neck.

"I am just relieved that we are able to have a baby," she replied. "I would be happy with either, so long as it is healthy. But a son to be the image of his father would be nice, I'll admit."

Jorah smiled as he nodded his head in agreement. "As am I. I am glad that we will get to experience such joy so soon." He said as one hand drifted to gently massage over her lower back. "Would you like for me to have a bath drawn? I could give you a shoulder and back massage." He offered as he kissed her temple gently.

Daenerys' eyes lit at the offer. She nodded happily. "Yes, please - I would indeed like to share in a bath with my husband after such happy news," she looked down at her belly. It wasn't quite swollen yet, but she looked forward to seeing it grow as the child inside her grew as well.

Jorah smiled as he rang a small bell and servants quickly came in. Soon the bath was prepared and they were left alone. He assisted his wife in undressing before stripping as well. He stepped into the tub and offered his hand to help her in with him. He began to pour water over her to wash up as his strong hands moved to massage her shoulders.

Daenerys slipped easily from her clothes as he undressed her. She loved watching him undress, stripping of his armor and all the trappings that came with it. She loved just lying in bed and counting his scars, tracing patterns between them.

She took his hand and slid into the tub with him. Daenerys laughed softly as he doused her with water. As he moved to massage her shoulders, Daenerys sighed and leaned into him. There was nowhere in the Seven Kingdoms she'd rather be.

"That feels heavenly," she sighed.

Jorah smiled as he heard her sigh in pleasure. He continued to massage her shoulders before moving up to massage her neck as well. "As our child grows within you I will be happy to give you more massages. All you have to do is ask." He said as he continued the gentle massage.

Daenerys smiled and looked up to him as he massaged her neck. "That wounds wonderful, you do spoil me so, my love," she tilted her head a bit more to kiss his jaw. "I could not have been promised to a better husband." Her father had gotten that right at least.

Jorah smiled as he tilted his head to return that gentle kiss. "It is my duty as your husband and lover to protect you and to keep you comfortable and satisfied. I know that your needs will be greatest during this time. Not because of a weakness. Simply because you are working for two people rather than one and it is far more work." He said lovingly.

Daenerys smiled and chuckled softly. "And our child is the child of a bear and a dragon - certainly they will have great demands unlike any other child." She teased as she looked down at her belly. "I can't wait...do you suppose the baby can hear us yet?" She rolled her eyes at her own naivete. "No, of course not. Silly of me."

Jorah chuckled at that as his hands drifted down to her belly. "That is true. I am quite certain they will be quite active within you." He said in agreement. He kissed her temple when she thought herself foolish. "I think they can. Perhaps not very well right now in the bath, but I have heard that they can hear quite well very early." He said.

Daenerys smiled down at her belly. "We'll talk to him - or her, whatever our child is. Every night if we can. I want our child to know how loved it is before it's even born." Daenerys looked up to Jorah and smiled, relieved. She kissed him softly and leaned into him. "I'm...just so happy to be able to have your child..."

Jorah smiled as he finished the slow massage and moved down to tenderly and lovingly place his hands on her belly. "They will know they are loved." He said before kissing along the side of her face. He was eager to announce their good news to the seven Kingdoms. However, he would wait until she was ready to inform the people of that good news.
