[For Jorah] A True Mother
Peace in the Seven Kingdoms.
It had been hard-won, but things were finally settling down. Daenerys had crushed the Lannister resistance and all its supporters with minimal casualties. Most of the Westerosi people were too happy to see the lions stripped of their power. Some were still wary of having a dragon on the throne again, but Daenerys had proven that she was not her father. Far from it, she was kind and forgiving - though not weak by any stretch of the imagination.
And she could not have been happier with Jorah by her side.
Nights in the Red Keep were hot enough, and every night he worked her into such a frenzy of lust that the scent of their bedroom seemed to smell perpetually of sweat and sex and love. Thus it came as no surprise to her maids when Daenerys once again began missing her bleeding, and as her breasts became fuller. Daenerys had not been certain that she could believe that, once again, she was pregnant. To be sure, without telling Jorah, she went to the Maester and had him test her to be certain.
It was true: Daenerys was pregnant.
Overjoyed, Daenerys instructed the servants that she would take dinner in her bedroom and to send the king consort to her when it was time for dinner. She waited patiently in their bedroom, in the balcony overlooking the city. The servants brought dinner and set it up on the table for them before leaving Daenerys alone to wait for Jorah. The wine had gone unpoured at her instructions, and the jug was on Jorah's side of the table. Daenerys could hardly contain her excitement.

He had seen reports from the lord commander of the night's watch that they now had enough men to reopen all of the castles once again. Once again men of noble breeding and strong fighters were manning the wall to help train and lead the other men of the night's watch.
Three nests had been built and made for Daenerys' children so that they could be close to their mother. King's Landing was still adjusting to three dragons flying overhead, but there were no incidents with residents so far. Flyers had been given out to all citizens of King's Landing so that they knew the best way to prevent provoking one of the dragons and ending up dead.
Jorah had finished a meeting with Grey Worm discussing the gold cloaks in the city and general safety within the city. There were still some issues within the city, but nothing worse than a tavern brawl between drunken men.
He returned to the tower and their shared chambers to find his wife and Queen waiting for him on the balcony with dinner. He smiled as he walked outside. He did not think that marrying her would rejuvinate him in such a way. With how often they made love it was almost as if he was a young man in his 20's again. He bowed to her, "My Queen." He said as he kissed her hand and then leaned down to kiss her lips softly. He noted the wine by his empty seat and that it had not yet been poured. "Shall I pour the wine?"

She paused a moment after he asked about the wine. "None for me, thank you my love. I'll have to go without wine for some time now."
Her violet eyes flickered up to him, and only then did she let her full smile break across her lips. "I've news, my love. Would you care to venture a guess?"

Her answer was a surprise to him. He could see it was her favorite wine and he was confused as to why she would not wish to drink it. However, the smile on her face and the mention of news put a slight smile on his own face. He reached out to take her hand into his. "Are you with child?" He asked excitedly.

"I am, my love," Daenerys smiled. "The Maester confirmed it this afternoon. He also believes that, based on how my belly has started to swell, it's a boy."
Daenerys grinned as she looked up to him. "Are you happy, beloved?"

Nine months went by slowly, achingly slow. Yet Daenerys enjoyed watching her belly swell bigger and bigger. She could hardly stop running her fingers over it, feeling their baby kick and move inside her.
Finally, in the early hours of the morning she had began to feel twinges of pain, which the Maester had assured her would happen. But it wasn't until later in the day that, as she was walking from the main hall, that Daenerys had to stop in her walk from the pain, and her water broke. Her maids and one of the gold cloaks hurried her to the nearest bed chamber and the midwife, the Maester and nurses were summoned. Daenerys sent one of her maids to find Jorah and tell him the news. But the midwife insisted that there were already too many people in the room and that there shouldn't be any more allowed to enter. Daenerys agreed, if only to shut the woman up and get her to get the baby out of her.
It was agony. Daenerys thought there was pure dragonfire inside her belly. The maids were carrying out armfuls of linens every ten minutes. Linens that were soaked in blood and birthing fluid. Daenerys couldn't help screaming out in pain, and the looks on the midwife and the Maester's faces...something seemed wrong. Her labor took much longer than it did even for a typical new mother. Daenerys' history, with her first child with Drogo and the poisoning she'd suffered from her first child with Jorah, made her delivery difficult. It was almost half a day before the baby's head was finally visible.
There was still a long way to go.

He was in a meeting when he heard that the Queen had gone into labor. He was quickly outside the room and could hear her crying out in pain. He tried to go in a few times, but was denied.
After he heard her continuing to cry out for half a day, he set his jaw. When the next batch of servants took fresh linens in he followed them in and gave a warning glare to the midwife who tried to stop him again.
He moved his way to his wife's side to take her hand. He kissed her temple and took over pressing a cool cloth to her forehead. He heard the midwife say that the head was out and he knew their child was almost here. "You are almost there." He encouraged her.

Seeing Jorah gave her strength. Daenerys caught her second wind and followed the urging of the midwife. After another half an hour, the midwife proclaimed that the baby was out. Daenerys practically fell against the bed and tried so hard to catch her breath. Her eyes were closed for a moment but as the Maester checked the baby over and the baby was cleaned, the newborn suddenly gave a choked cry that made Daenerys sit bolt upright. This was a mistake, as her head rushed from lack of fluids and blood loss, and Daenerys pitched forward roughly. With a whimper, she brought her hand to her forehead and tried to remain steady. It was only then that the midwife brought the squalling baby over to the King and Queen, wrapped up in swaddling clothes to keep the baby warm. She handed the child over to Daenerys once she'd been steadied back against the pillows and the linens were changed a final time.
"The Gods have seen fit to bless your graces - it's a fine, healthy baby boy, a good strong prince," she smiled.
Daenerys cradled the baby in her arms - a boy. A son. The son she'd wanted more than anything in the world. She could hardly believe it. She pushed back the blankets a bit to show his head, and smiled at the soft tufts of silver hair he had already. Daenerys looked up to Jorah with the biggest, exhausted smile on her face. "A son..." she whispered hoarsely. "We have a son."

At the cry, Jorah's head snapped up and a smile crossed his face. He felt Daenerys sit up and he helped to steady her as the linens were changed a final time and pillows were brought in to prop her up.
Jorah laid down next to her and put an arm over her shoulders as their son was placed in her arms. He smiled as he saw the young boys face and the tuft of silver hair on his head. Jorah kissed her temple again as he looked at their son...the prince. "Yes we do." He said before seeing Maester approach slowly. "The Maester needs his name to put on the birth record."

Daenerys glanced up to Jorah, looking for his opinion and whether or not he approved of the name. After all, this was his son as well. He deserved input. "Jorys."

Jorah saw her look to him as she spoke the name. He smiled proudly before looking at the Maester. "Prince Jorys Targaryen." He confirmed with absolute pride in his voice.

"Perhaps when he is older, he should be allowed the choice of which house name he would prefer to go by," Yes, she was a Targaryen, and the dynasty had been strong. But there was a darkness that came with that name.
Besides, women, Queen or no, typically took the name their husband carried. Daenerys was not about to go by anything other than Targaryen. But her children would have Mormont blood. The blood of their father.

Jorah looked at his wife. "You do not want to continue your families name?" He asked her softly. His sister had children of her own that would carry the Mormont name on.

But she glanced up to Jorah at his question and gave a little smile. "The Targaryen name has left its mark on history. I would not be disappointed if my child decided to go by my name and the name of my fathers. But were I anything other than Targaryen, were I anything other than a queen, his name would be Mormont without question. The best thing, I think, is to allow him the choice for himself when he comes of age."

Daenerys pulled her dress aside and brought Jorys up to her breast. Jorys opened his mouth and latched onto her nipple to feed. Daenerys was overwhelmed with happiness and a maternal warmth that filled her up.
"He's so beautiful, so small," she whispered.

She happily pictured the two of them in the future; Jorah teaching their son to handle a sword, Daenerys would teach him to ride - for she was a Khaleesi, after all. But then she caught that chuckle and tilted her head at him. "What's so funny, love?"

"You've had time enough with them, you can share them for a time," she teased him even as she pulled Jorys from her breast and positioned him over her shoulder and patted his back to burp him.
