[For Lockheed] Expecting the Unexpected
They had their little schedule - Dejah left her bedroom window open enough for Lockheed to enter if he decided to visit her in the night, or whenever he pleased, really. So it should have been no surprise to Dejah Thoris when her monthly bleeding didn't come. Nor should it have been a surprise when she took a home test and the results came through clear: Positive.
Pregnant.
She sat on the side of the bathtub, staring at the test in her hand. Hardly believing the clear facts that were before her.

He landed beside her on the sofa and gave a bemused shrug. "I guess yeh would be better than most, sorry. I just figured I'd warn yeh of what he looks like, he's totally nice and smart. Sounds fun, then we should probably have dinner together, something romantic. Blessings might be harder but if we need to go to Barsoom I guess that could be managed..."

"We cannot get to Barsoom from here - not the proper Barsoom anyway - without a mirror from a Thern," Dejah told him.
Mars was Mars, yes. But it wasn't simply a matter of getting into a spaceship and going there. Her Mars, her Barsoom, was a bit different, required that particular transport in order to get to Helium.
"I don't require the blessings, this is a special case, is it not?" Dejah smiled. "I'm happy celebrating with you."
no subject
"That sounds a bit difficult, but if you're ok staying here that's fine. And this is a blessing regardless! All Heed needs to be happy is being here with yeh and raising our kids together."
no subject
"I'm happy for that as well. Nothing else in the whole wide world matters than that."
Was thinking of doing a time jump to when they check the babies?
"Exactly, and whatever they're like and whatever happens they're gonna be beautiful, just like yeh."
That's fine! I did the time jump here, let me know though if you'd like anything changed!
It was after one such check, a bit later in the pregnancy when her belly was starting to swell, that Dejah stayed longer than usual. She held something in her hand, and had asked Beast to get Lockheed for her, as she knew him to be nearby.
Dejah couldn't stop smiling at the object in her hand.
That's fine, seems good so far. :)
When Lockheed was called to the infirmary he flew across and perched close to her on the bed, glancing down happily at the swell of her stomach before back up to Dejah. "Yeh asked for me, my love? What is it?"

"First sonogram," she smiled. "Would you like to see? There's quite a surprise in this picture..."
no subject
"I would like to very much! Guessing from yeh smile that it's a happy surprise..."

They were dark shapes amidst white, like any sonogram. Two of them were distinct, not very big, but big enough to see.
"Twins, at least," Dejah pointed them out in the picture. "Live, not eggs - but they clearly take after you, I think the closest one there is starting to develop wings, see the shadow?"
no subject
"This is wonderful, we're gonna have kids who can fly! I'm sure they'll have a lot of their mom in them too though."
no subject
"I'm certain they'll take after the both of us - but the most interesting thing will be that they will have our traits and make them uniquely their own," she pointed out.
Her fingers ghosted over her belly again, eager to bring them to term and give birth - the typical expectant mother.
no subject
"They'll be the best Barsoom/Flock kids we could ask for, I'm sure. Do yeh feel ok, want me to get anything for yeh?" He supposed he would be asking that question to her a lot in the next few months, even if he knew she wasn't made from glass, but he liked to show he wanted to take care of Dejah.
no subject
"I'm sure you're right."
Dejah wasn't really craving anything strange, as often expectant mothers do so she had been told. But, she paused a moment, nodding a little as she looked to him. again.
"Actually, I'm rather thirsty, I wouldn't mind water if it's available," it still seemed strange to her that water was so readily available on Jasoom, as it was a coveted resource on Barsoom.

"I'll get yeh some water then my love, just stay there and rest, ok?" He flapped away to another room, locating a water cooler where he deftly extracted some cool water into a plastic cup, returning to her in a couple of minutes with it held in both paws.
no subject
"Thank you, dearest," Dejah smiled and waited, her hands practically glued to her belly. When he returned to give her the water, Dejah nodded her thanks again as she took the cup.
Then she leaned in and moved to brush her lips against his. She was just so happy to be carrying his children.

He returned the kiss with equal tenderness, though his mind was pondering something which had recently occurred to him. He sat on her lower lap once they had finished and stared up at her with some curiosity. "Dejah my love, is it ok if I ask yeh something? About us?"
no subject
"Of course love, does something trouble you?"
no subject
"Ah, well... it's nothing bad, just... I really like yeh, Dejah, and when people on Earth really like each other they sometimes, ah... get married. And I know yeh had some problems with the last times yeh were enagaged and all, and I ain't got a ring to give yeh right now, but..." He drifted off, uncertain what to say next.
no subject
"People should not marry for 'like', dearest. People should marry for love - so let me ask you this," Dejah set her fingers beneath his chin and scratched gently. "Do you love me?"
no subject
"Of course! I mean yes, I do love yeh. Yeh the kindest person I've met after Kitty, but yeh also smart, tough and course, yeh also really beautiful. If we marry, it'll be cause I love yeh, and hope yeh love Heed as much."
no subject
"Of course, dearest. I love you. My dragon - my Lockheed," Dejah smiled and kissed him again.
no subject
"I love being yeh dragon, my fair princess... then will yeh do Heed the honour of becoming my wife?"
no subject
"Remind me, love, someday we'll discuss how marriage works on Barsoom. But, yes. The honor would be mine."
no subject
In any case he almost squealed for joy at her acceptance. "I would be happy to discuss it with yeh at some point soon! And yeh have no idea how good yeh saying so makes me feel!" He impulsively flapped up into her arms and planted a deep passionate kiss against her lips/

Should we fastforward to her actually giving birth soon or did you want to play something else out?
I'm happy to skip to the birth if you want! :) Would you want to start a new thread or stay here?
Either one works for me! Which would you prefer?
I think a new thread, otherwise this one might get a tad long?
