[For Jorah
bearinshiningarmor] The Trust of a Khaleesi
Jorah had left her chambers early in the morning to avoid being seen by the servants. Daenerys had given him one last kiss goodbye, still reluctant to let him go. But she knew it had to be done. She knew that she had to remain strong and that he would have to publicly earn her trust again. If he wanted to be in her circle again, he would have to win the right.
Ser Barristan and Daario would not permit Jorah withing three feet of their Khaleesi without some proof that he could be trusted.
Thus, after she dozed off for a little while longer, Daenerys rose from bed and had the servants dress her for the day in a gown of blue and white fabric. She then made her way to the throne room and settled into her seat to receive complaints and concerns from her subjects. This was the open forum during which they could bring issues to her attention without fear.
Barristan and Daario were already there, the latter gave the Khaleesi a little wink, now that he had returned from his brief mission. Daenerys gave a weak smile, and blushed as images of Jorah flashed through her mind from the night before.

"The Frey's will not suspect an attack on them, the old man would be more than willing to wish to speak of peace. If you wish, you could send your Unsullied in to remove all those who are not related to the Frey's. Then, upon Drogon's back, unleash your fury upon their great castles with your children who were unjustly robbed of a sibling." He said. Unleashing her dragons upon a hated family would strike fear into all lords who would think to oppose her, but removing innocents would show a hint of mercy and show that she was not her father.

...but was it truly just?
"...will there not be those who accuse me of striking down the Freys because they would oppose me? Would they not accuse me of silencing all those who would speak out against me? Would they not call me a tyrant?"
There was a long pause before she spoke again. "Would they not call me 'Mad'?"

He sighed after a moment before speaking. "If you were to simply wipe out all who currently live at the Twins then yes many would call you mad. However, if you send in soldiers to remove those who are innocent of being related to a family who broke not just the rules of the land but the rules of the old gods and the seven many would see it as appropriate justice to those cowards. As Queen you are burdened with carrying out the terrifying justice that the gods demand when their laws are broken." He said. "Gods are known for punishments some term as cruel when their laws are broken."

"Very well then. Do it," she kept her voice level. "Get the innocent out - then drag the Freys back here by their hair to face my wrath and justice."
She leaned into him, pressing her forehead against his. "Make them pay for murdering our son."

It was a month later when the last of the Frey's were brought to the capital. Jorah had sent men to build a special arena outside of the city. There were perches made for each of the Queen's dragons to rest upon and they had been trained to take their positions. Jorah had been using the arena as a feeding pen for the dragon's. Today would be different.
Every Frey in the city was marched by the Unsullied to the arena and forced to stand along the sandy floor. Jorah and others of the small council along with the unsullied stood in along the top of the walls as the Frey's began to look confused and scared. Those who were standing as witnesses along with the unsullied were wearing the bitter oil that would keep them safe from the dragon's. They Frey's were not given the same protection.
The sound of large wings approaching could be heard as Daenerys rode to the arena upon Drogon's back. The three dragon's were perched and looked down into the arena with interest. It was time for the execution, Jorah wondered if any of the Frey's would beg for mercy. He made sure the records were checked relentlessly to ensure that only those with Frey blood within them were within this arena. No matter the age, all with Frey blood in their veins stood within this arena.
Amongst the witnesses were the remnants of the Tulley household. The Tulley's held no love for either the Frey's or the Lannister's. Jorah had invited them to see justice served to the Frey family of the injustice they caused upon Tulley kin. Sansa Stark's mother was a Tulley when she was a maid, it would be the beginning of winning over the North to Daenerys. If she could win the trust and fealty of Sansa's uncles then perhaps they would encourage the girl to swear fealty to Daenerys as well.

But then the time finally came and the Freys were rounded up and brought to face her justice. Daenerys rode in on Drogon's back and then dismounted, taking her seat in the throne of the arena. Drogon mounted his perch and snarled down at the arena, licking his teeth as he looked down at the Freys, who trembled at the sight of her large and hungry dragons.
"You have been summoned here for a single purpose," Daenerys called out, making sure her voice rang throughout the arena for the spectators and victims alike. "The Frey clan has been found guilty of treason, and for crimes against the Old Gods. As Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, of the Andals and the First Men; I, Daenerys Stormborn, of House Targaryen, am charged with upholding the justice of the realm and of maintaining the laws set forth by the Gods."
She paused for a moment, letting her words ring throughout the arena.
"Therefore it is my solemn duty to sentence the entirety of House Frey to death. The Gods demand blood for blood - thus the blood they have shed must be appeased with blood of their clan. I will not see the injustice and brutality they have wrought with the slaughter of House Stark and the bannermen of the Northern Army done ever again. This era has no place for such deceit and such brutality!"
Drogon could wait no more, it seemed. He lit from his perch and swooped down into the arena. He approached the trembling Freys and snapped his jaws. Viserion and Rhaegal were soon to follow. But they did not attack, not yet. Daenerys glanced out among the crowd before looking down below. There was satisfaction in seeing the Freys cry out for mercy.
They would find none here.
"Let it be known, such is the punishment for murder in this realm. For House Stark, and in the name of House Targaryen...dracarys."
With the last word, the dragons tore into the defenseless Freys, devouring them, roasting them, tearing them apart. Daenerys took her seat and watched.

He moved to stand just behind her as she sat to watch the slaughter her children were doing. The three dragons remained in the pit and none spat fire anywhere other than those condemned to die. Looking at the witnesses he saw satisfied looks on the face of the Tulleys and smirks of pride from the sand snakes. With this move Daenerys had secured her alliance with the powerful female leaders and warriors of Dorne. He looked forward to seeing how the news of this justice affected the north. It would not take long for the word of this to spread through the entire kingdom. He hoped it would cause the remaining Lannisters to wet themselves at the news.

They could try again. Daenerys wanted to be a mother of a human child; particularly Jorah's child. But then again, she had a kingdom to rule and bring under control. A child would complicate matters. Especially a bastard child.
No, the next child she conceived would be legitimate. A proper heir to the throne.

Two months later the seven Kingdoms were at peace and all were willingly under Daenerys Targarean's rule. They were staying at the crossroads for the highly anticipated tournament. As Jorah had predicted many men had stepped forward in hopes of claiming Daenerys hand in marriage.
However, Jorah knew that her heart was set on him. He had spoken with her in private on how to approach this matter without offending her new allies too greatly.
A tournament would be held and the victor of the tournament would win the right to her hand. However, there were rules for who could compete. The man who desired to be the King Consort would have to compete for her hand himself, must prove that he was loyal to the Queen when she returned to Weseros, and must not be currently married or promised to any other woman.
These conditions eliminated a majority of Jorah's true competitors. The final criteria for the victor to be determined gave him a clear advantage if he was careful. Most of the other 'men' competing for her hand were green boys or old men. His biggest competition was Daario, although he hoped that during the joust Daario would be weakened enough that the hand to hand combat would be easier.
Jorah had performed well during the archery contest, but only finished third. He was first in the mounted joust and the final round was the hand to hand combat. The four men who made it the the hand to hand combat had to all fight each other once. Jorah intended to go undefeated through the hand to hand combat to clearly win the right to his Queen so that he would no longer have to hide his love and desire for her.
He beat the first two boys easily enough and Daario also beat the two boys. They used blunted weapons that were tested to be sure the edges were blunt. Jorah thanked the gods old and new that Daario had been slowed by the beating he took during the joust. His lack of skill with jousting meant that he had been unhorsed often and had taken many heavy blows that Jorah had avoided. Daario might be younger, but he was more worn by the previous tournament events.
Jorah stayed defensive as he watched for Daario to tire and become sloppy with his movements. He had fought with the man before and seen him in battles. He was well aware of when the man was faking and when he wasn't. The battle between the two men who had crossed the narrow sea with the Dragon Queen was by the book and very long. It took hours before Jorah was finally able to defeat Daario. He had finally landed enough blows that Daario could no longer stand on his feet. Jorah stepped back and gave Daario room to either surrender or quit the field with honor. He wanted to prove that he would follow the example of his Queen and show restraint when it was called for.
Varys had been the referee for the hand to hand bouts and claimed Jorah the victor of the final battle. He led Jorah to the foot of the throne she was sitting upon. Jorah knelt before her feet and Varys announced that he was the only man undefeated in hand to hand combat, he was the victor of the mounted joust, and he was the third best archer. Varys declared him the one man who proved himself worthy to stand beside the Dragon Queen.
Jorah waited for the cheers to soften and Varys to finish speaking. He raised his head, but remained on his knees before her. "I have been declared the victor of this tournament. As victor my greatest desire is the right to rule by your side as your King Consort." He paused a moment as he waited for her to speak.
He had had a private conversation with her last night that if she so desired she could order him to prove his bravery and to truly test his worthiness she could send him to walk amongst her dragons. If he was truly worthy he would be able to mount one of them and ride one alongside his Queen.

Especially when that potential husband was Ser Jorah Mormont.
When the jousts began she had watched carefully and gripped her fists so tight in fear for Jorah that she'd nearly pierced her palms with her nails. But as it was, Jorah won the jousts. When the time for the archery portion came, Daenerys was not surprised to find that Jorah had finished third. He was better at hand-to-hand than archery. Which was why, when he faced Daario in the final round, she was not surprised that Jorah won. Her heart swelled with joy as Varys announced him the victor. It had taken all her self control not to run to Jorah when he approached her throne. But she maintained her calm demeanor as she looked down to him.
"Your strength is to be commended, Ser Jorah," she praised him. "But I have yet one more task for you. I am indeed the Mother of Dragons, and as such, I must know that my dragons find you worthy of standing by my side. Walk amongst my dragons, Ser Jorah. Come with me to mount my dragons for a ride. If Viserion or Rhaegal permits you on his back, it will be your final test, and you will be truly worthy of being my husband."
She paused before adding: "Do you accept this final challenge?"

Jorah nodded his head. "I accept this final challenge willingly your grace." He stood slowly and made his way to the edge of the battle arena. The dragons were up on a hill where they could overlook the events, but were far enough away to not make the spectators too nervous. Jorah removed his armor and weapons before walking up the hill towards the dragons. He was not wearing the bitter oil and he knew that Daenerys would be following him shortly.
He approached the three dragons slowly, but with confidence. During the time he had spent with the dragons Rhaegal had seemed to like him the most. He slowly approached the green dragon with bronze. He held his hand out towards the powerful dragon and waited for him to bring his snout forward so that he could pet the creature.
Rhaegal did lean his long snout forward and made a rumbling noise of approval at the touch. Jorah slowly moved towards the base of his neck and continued the petting. Daenerys had taught him some Valyrian, he used it to speak gentle words to Rhaegal before he pulled himself up to straddle the green dragon.

Still, Daenerys watched anxiously as he approached Rhaegal. When Rhaegal approached in turn, Daenerys couldn't breathe. But she worried for nothing, it seemed, as the dragon allowed Jorah close. Vaguely Daenerys could hear Jorah speaking Valyrian to her dragon and her heart soared. When Jorah climbed atop Rhaegal's back, Daenerys wasted no second longer to approach Drogon, who eagerly allowed her onto his back.
"Congratulations Ser Jorah," she reached out to him. "Or should I say 'husband'?" She grinned.

"Shall we fly over your Kingdom together? So that they will know that your husband has been chosen." He said as he felt Rhaegal shifting beneath him.

"I can't wait," she trembled in absolute glee. "That sounds like a superb idea, my love."
Daenerys nudged her heels and Drogon gave a sharp noise of displeasure, not liking being ordered about even by his mother. But he obeyed all the same, launching into the air and up high. He glanced down and gave a loud cry out to his brother, wanting the other dragon to join him aloft. As was their intent.

It took a bit of effort to keep his grip as the green dragon rose into the air. The third dragon also became airborne to follow his brothers as they flew through the air.

Over the kingdom, over King's Landing to show the people just as Jorah had said that they had a new King Consort to rule beside their Queen. She couldn't wait for the wedding but of course she had yet one more surprise, which she couldn't wait to bestow upon him before their wedding.

"I've a gift for you," she chuckled. She led him back towards the tournament grounds. Where the jousts had taken place, where the arrows had been fired and where Jorah had defeated Daario in hand-to-hand combat.
Daenerys made a gesture to one of the Unsullied, who bolted forward with a fine sword that had been forged just for her. She then released Jorah's hand and stepped in front of him.
"Take a knee, Ser Jorah."

"Ser Jorah Mormont," she spoke loud enough for the remaining spectators and lords to hear. "You were knighted in the name of the usurper Robert Baratheon. You now serve as Hand to the Queen, and have proven worthy of being the King Consort. For your service and bravery, it pleases me to knight you under the Targaryen banner."
Daenerys lifted her sword and gently touched it to his shoulder, then the other.
"Rise, Knight of the Dragon, Ser Jorah Mormont."

He offered his hand for her and nodded that he was ready for their wedding if she was.

She was ready. She had been ready for some time now.

After dawning his new armor, he went to the place where the wedding would take place. He was given a fine cloak with his family's sigil on it that he currently wore and would place upon Daenerys shoulders shortly. He stood near the high septon in front of the weirwood in the center of the camp. Since he was a man of the north and she was Queen of the seven Kingdoms it was important for their wedding to take place before the old gods and the new.
