Daenerys considered his point. "I do want to be accepted, rather than feared. But I do not wish to gain a reputation for leniency, lest our enemies think me weak. But it would not do to strike out against such men who merely follow orders."

She was conflicted. "Still, there is something to be said against a man's character when he does something solely for the reason of tradition, rather than fight what is right. I shall follow your advice though, love. I will allow those who surrender to take the black, or offer sons to serve in the household."

But that was also slavery...wasn't it? "...if they remain loyal, I will consider releasing their children back to them."
