Daenerys made good on her promise that this time would be different. In an effort to keep the baby absolutely safe during her pregnancy, Daenerys had not lain with Jorah - she had not taken him inside, but she had found other ways to please him during that time to keep him loyal; not that she feared he would wader to other beds after all they'd been through together.

Nine months went by slowly, achingly slow. Yet Daenerys enjoyed watching her belly swell bigger and bigger. She could hardly stop running her fingers over it, feeling their baby kick and move inside her.

Finally, in the early hours of the morning she had began to feel twinges of pain, which the Maester had assured her would happen. But it wasn't until later in the day that, as she was walking from the main hall, that Daenerys had to stop in her walk from the pain, and her water broke. Her maids and one of the gold cloaks hurried her to the nearest bed chamber and the midwife, the Maester and nurses were summoned. Daenerys sent one of her maids to find Jorah and tell him the news. But the midwife insisted that there were already too many people in the room and that there shouldn't be any more allowed to enter. Daenerys agreed, if only to shut the woman up and get her to get the baby out of her.

It was agony. Daenerys thought there was pure dragonfire inside her belly. The maids were carrying out armfuls of linens every ten minutes. Linens that were soaked in blood and birthing fluid. Daenerys couldn't help screaming out in pain, and the looks on the midwife and the Maester's faces...something seemed wrong. Her labor took much longer than it did even for a typical new mother. Daenerys' history, with her first child with Drogo and the poisoning she'd suffered from her first child with Jorah, made her delivery difficult. It was almost half a day before the baby's head was finally visible.

There was still a long way to go.
