Looking quite mad himself, Vane sheathed his sword, apparently ready to concede the skirmish. A moment later, the air was filled with gunfire, shot raining from above, where other members of Vane's crew had scurried to the roof of the building to find vantage points looking down into the open central parlor.
Once he saw the two men approaching Anne's room fall, Vane charged forward with a roar.
