At Anne's shrewd summation of the situation, Charles slapped the top of the table and smiled. "Now that is what you need to bring to the table with Eleanor Guthrie. She's smart, and she knows it, and too often the pirates she does business with aren't. But like any good pirate, make it worth her while, and she'll be willing to talk."
He set aside any suggestions of preying on other ships that flew the black. Vane knew that no matter how cunning a captain he was or how formidable the Ranger could be, such an act would turn all of Nassau against him, and he'd be headed for the ocean floor inside of a week.
Vane shook his head. "No one's asking you to beg. Just, like you said, bring a peace offering. If there are any books we took from your ship, or some of your ladies' fancy dresses Eleanor could give to her girlfriend."
